About The New Evangelization Team (NET) |
The New Evangelization Team (NET) of the Catholic Archdiocese of Singapore was set up in 1986 in response to the Holy Fathers’ reminder that all lay Catholics must participate in the urgent task of evangelization. The Church was born through evangelization and evangelization is its mission proper.
The Catholic Church has been likened to a sleeping giant. For too long, evangelization was seen as the responsibility of priests and nuns – not any longer!
NET endeavours to awaken, encourage and form Catholics for this important mission. It is a Catholic effort to provide formation to nurture disciples with a spirituality and skills for the mission of evangelization.
The world needs to know not only about God’s love, but to be able to experience this love which is extended to all. It is the responsibility of all NETters to not only share Christ, but to be Christ in the world.

The soft-spoken Gabriel (left) was invited to join NET by one of our NETters during the Habitat for Humanity Tsunami rebuilding in Sri Lanka but only took a step in faith in 2009 due to work schedule previously. Gabriel hopes to learn more about the Catholic faith through the formation so that he could bring Christ to his workplace. Through this 10-months’ formation, Gabriel has come to understand that more people would come to know Christ through our simple sharing of our faith and God will do the rest. Glen (right), the self-professed “control freak” is learning to let go. He has left a rather well paid job to start an IT solutions company and shared that one day after Mass, he was praying to God for guidance as to how he can serve Him now that he has more time on his hands being self-employed. He believes God answered his prayer when he was handed a NET brochure by one of our NETters during our enrolment exercise immediately after his prayer. Glen is also the main co-ordinator for the N19s’ first Christmas outreach entitled “What is Christmas?” last December - And Glen is extremely happy to share that his father who was one of the invited guests of the Christmas outreach is now undergoing RCIA. |

That is what we are experiencing in the latest module in NET19. The module we are excited about is on Public Speaking.
As we listen to one another's sharings of God's action and miracles in our lives, we become connected with our own stories. And discovering these, we become as excited as Jesus finding a lost lamb. NET is grateful to God for the loving commitment of Augustine and Joseph who have come for each NET to share their skills and stories. I understand that they have been doing this for more than a decade! As we learn from them, we hope that we will develop the gift of speaking convincingly as we try to reach out to God's lost children as commanded by our Lord and Master Jesus Christ. The NET logo is Asian in design and was actually painted by a Chinese calligrapher.
The WATER-MARK symbolizes the Holy Spirit and is roughly shaped like the Tau. The Tau has exactly the same form as the cross on which our Lord was crucified on Calvary. And only those will be marked with this sign and will obtain mercy, who have mortified their flesh and conformed their life to that of the Crucified Saviour." We in NET should be reminded that it represents our life of conversion and metanoia. |
